Hugh Ellis of the University of San Diego USA is measuring metabolic rate in kittiwakes. When the chicks are 15 days old,
he measures over a period of two days field metabolic rate using doubly labelled water.
Than the bird is placed for 4 hours in a respiratory chamber to measure basal metabolic rate. The metabolic rates will be
related to hormone and pollution levels. In the background, the pump of the measurement unit is working constantly. Sorry for the noise. |
