In this building there is a supercooled gravimeter, which registers the tides in the liquid earth mass. This mass is also affected by the moon and the sun like the ocean tides. The instrument is kept at a temperature of 4 degrees Kelvin, minus 269 degrees Celsius (supercool) in a liquid helium environment. |
